Melissa Busley is an estate planning and tax attorney who joined Dunn Carney LLP in 2007. She enjoys working with clients to address their concerns and developing plans to achieve their goals.
In her estate planning practice, Melissa works with individuals and couples to ensure they have plans tailored to their unique situations, which provides for the management of assets if the client becomes incapacitated and also addresses how to manage and dispose of assets upon death.
Whether creating a complex or simple estate plan, Melissa’s goal is to ensure that the plan is appropriate to her client’s specific needs, and that the client is comfortable with the final outcome. Generally, the plan includes preparation of a will, powers of attorney and documents to address healthcare decisions, but can also include trusts.
Melissa also works with families after the death of a loved one to navigate the administration process. Whether there is a probate (court supervised administration process), a trust administration, or both, she walks the client through the process by providing an overview and breaking the process down into manageable steps. If necessary, she assists clients with the preparation of estate tax returns, and dealing with assets that pass by a non-probate transfer mechanism.
In addition to planning and administration work, Melissa works with tax-exempt organizations on operational matters and tax compliance. She assists new organizations in forming and receiving recognition of tax-exempt status.
Alongside her legal credentials, Melissa is a M.O.M. (mother of multiples) and cancer survivor. Josh has represented clients in state and federal trial and appellate courts and administrative proceedings throughout the country, at numerous mediations and arbitrations, and in investigations conducted by state and federal regulatory enforcement agencies.
Within the firm, Josh is an active member of the Litigation, Business, Real Estate, Insurance, and Employment Teams. He chairs the Pro Bono Committee and manages the firm’s participation in a monthly night legal clinic serving indigent clients in collaboration with Legal Aid Services of Oregon. He also maintains an active pro bono practice of his own, in which he primarily represents victims of domestic violence. In 2015, the Multnomah Bar Association honored him for those efforts.
Josh’s community involvement extends beyond the law, most notably to his service on the Board of Directors for Portland Homeless Family Solutions (since 2014, currently as Treasurer).
Prior to becoming a lawyer, Josh served in the United States Peace Corps in South Africa, and spent several years traveling on his own across Latin America, Europe, and Asia. More than a decade later, he remains fluent in Spanish.
When Josh is not at the office, he is likely at the zoo, the park, or the community pool with his young daughter Stella and his wife Lily, cheering at Providence Park in the Timbers Army or at home for the Wisconsin Badgers, or hiking somewhere in the Southwest Hills.

Ty K. Wyman
Partner
For more than 20 years, Ty Wyman has helped clients caught up in Oregon’s arcane land use system. Using his background in the law, Ty typically guides property owners and builders who have a project at risk of being derailed. He has plenty of experience at contested hearings before state and local panels, but generally works to find common ground between government agencies and clients so projects can move forward without dispute.
I’m trying to chart a course that avoids the pitfalls and entanglements of the land use system.
Over the past seven years, Ty has gained particular experience working for a major railroad. This has broadened his experience, particularly in working with tribal governments.
Within Dunn Carney, Ty is a member of Dunn Carney’s Real Estate and Land Use Team and Agriculture & Natural Resources Team. Ty’s personal interests (now that his kids have grown) run to baseball (as part of Red Sox Nation) and board games.
