C. Robert Steringer
Of Counsel
Bob Steringer is an advisor, litigator, and appellate lawyer for private and government clients in Oregon and Washington. He brings a full toolkit to client service, considering whether a client’s goals are best achieved by litigation, pursuing a change in the law, seeking alternative dispute resolution, doing a business deal or, sometimes, just waiting and seeing. Bob’s practice focuses on:
- Litigation and appeals on a wide range of issues in state and federal courts, including complex business disputes, government regulation, constitutional and public policy matters, and professional licensing, with recognition by The Best Lawyers in America® since 2013 and by Super Lawyers® since 2015.
- Outside general counsel services for governmental entities, including advice on local legislation, public records, public meetings, public contracting, intergovernmental relations, Public Employees Retirement System, board governance, and internal dispute resolution.
- Representation of public and private clients on issues at the intersection of law and public policy, including constitutional law, state agency rulemaking and regulation, government ethics, election and campaign finance regulation, initiatives and referenda, 501(c)(4) formation and regulation, lobbying regulation, energy regulation, and professional licensing, with recognition as Best Lawyers® 2025 Administrative / Regulatory Law “Lawyer of the Year” in Portland, Oregon.
Prior to joining Dunn Carney, Bob led a regionally recognized appellate practice representing private and government clients in Oregon and Washington appellate courts, as well as the Ninth Circuit. He has secured appellate victories for clients in high-stakes cases establishing the law of Oregon in areas as diverse as corporate succession, contribution rights among insurers under the Oregon Environmental Cleanup Assistance Act and common law, the constitutionality of civil forfeiture statutes, and application of the attorney-client privilege to a client’s email communications using an employer’s email system.
Bob is a former President of the Multnomah Bar Association and currently serves as Vice-President of the Multnomah Bar Foundation.
