Summer Associate Program
Summer Associates at Dunn Carney LLP have the opportunity to work closely with a range of attorneys in varied practice areas, seek out projects of interest, and learn the importance of the client’s perspective. We treat our Summer Associates as first-year attorneys, entrusting them with meaningful client work and including them in all social events throughout the summer. Hallmarks of our program include:
- Hands-on work experience
- Opportunities for direct client interaction
- Strong mentor-mentee relationships
- Participation in firm networking events and activities
- Opportunities to observe depositions, client meetings, and hearings
- Opportunities for pro bono work
- A collegial environment
For decades, Dunn Carney has provided second-year law students with a valuable summer experience to complement their legal education. For many of the firm’s current attorneys, their first employment at Dunn Carney came during their time spent as Summer Associates. Managing Partner Jon Bennett was a Summer Associate, as were partners Eric Kekel, Tim Hering, Sam Smith and Elizabeth Knight, and associates Katherine Acosta and Lauren Russell.

Summer Associates are primarily hired through On Campus Interview programs at Oregon and Washington law schools every August. However, other qualified second-year law students can apply by submitting a cover letter, resume, transcript and writing sample to Human Resources Director Donna Moser at email@example.com.
